The Rioja industry consolidates its commitment to talent management with the second edition of the La Rioja Remuneration Study and its competitive environment

The La Rioja Automotive Cluster is expanding its commitment to strategic industrial talent management and facilitating the implementation of salary policies with a second edition of the remuneration study of La Rioja and its competitive environment.

The automotive industry is undergoing unprecedented transformation. Electrification, digitalisation, autonomous vehicles and new European regulatory requirements are redefining the future of the industry. In this context, attracting and retaining talent is becoming the main competitive challenge for companies in La Rioja.

With this objective in mind, in 2024 the La Rioja Automotive Cluster launched the first Remuneration Study of La Rioja and its competitive environment, prepared in collaboration with Personas y Estrategia, a leading human resources company in the region. The study was co-financed by the Government of La Rioja, and following the success of that first edition, the Cluster now presents the results of the second edition, which includes new participating companies and significantly expands the scope of the analysis.

In this second edition, 21 leading companies in the regional economy have made it possible to gather data on more than 4,000 workers, classified into 58 different job positions. This study is currently the most comprehensive tool on the industrial labour market in La Rioja, covering salaries, demographic structure and talent retention.

The analysis provides a macro view of the labour situation in the industrial sector and, in particular, in the automotive industry. Some of the main results of this second edition are:

  • Only 5% of industrial workers in the study live more than 30 kilometres from their workplace, demonstrating the strong link between industry and the region.
  • Almost 10% of the industrial workforce will retire in less than five years, and another 17% are between 55 and 59 years old, which anticipates a significant generational challenge.
  • Only 8.5% of industrial workers are under 30 years old, a figure that drops to 5.8% in the automotive sector.
  • The automotive sector is consolidating its position as one of the main benchmarks for job stability in La Rioja, as 66% of its workers have been with the same company for more than ten years, compared to 42% in the rest of the industry.
  • Women in the automotive sector enjoy more favourable pay than in other industrial sectors, although they represent only 15% of employment in the sector.
  • In terms of salary trends, the engineering category has seen the largest increase in remuneration over the last year, with an average rise of 9.4%, while the increase for management positions has been more moderate, at around 1.4%.
  • Among the areas with the highest levels of salary competitiveness are the IT, processes and continuous improvement, quality and environment, and technical office departments.

Participating companies not only receive an individualised report, but also have access to a web tool that allows them to find out the most common salary for each position, compare specific remuneration with industry standards, and analyse company statistics in relation to the sector as a whole. This tool has established itself as an essential instrument for salary planning and strategic talent management in an economic context marked by global competition and the need for qualified profiles.

The La Rioja Automotive Cluster invites all industrial companies in the region and the competitive environment to join this initiative. From now on, the study will be conducted every two years, with the next edition taking place in 2027, thus consolidating a stable and sustainable line of work over time. The continuity of the study and the tool reinforce La Rioja’s position as a region committed to talent management and the competitiveness of its industry, advancing a strategy that combines innovation, knowledge and business development.
