The Cluster

The La Rioja AUTOMOTIVE Cluster is an Innovative Business Group that was created as a non-profit association. It is part of the Register of Innovative Business Groups set up by the Ministry of Economy, Industry, Tourism and Competitiveness. In August 2017, the Cluster was notified by the Assessment Committee that AEI AUTOMOCIÓN RIOJA’s Strategic Plan III had been awarded the classification of “Excellent”. The Cluster’s aim is to foster a commitment on the part of all the actors in La Rioja’s automotive and ancillary industries (i.e. companies, associations, technology centres, organisations and institutions) to promote La Rioja as a centre of excellence within the market and consolidate the image and position of the region’s automotive industry at the national and international level. In turn, this will enable the Cluster to promote research, development and innovation in the automotive industry and contribute to the economic, social and technological development of La Rioja.

At present, the Cluster comprises 19 companies within La Rioja’s automotive ancillary industry, three major La Rioja-based R&D&I bodies, and 8 collaborative partners. With a joint turnover in excess of 425 million euros, the Cluster represents a significant percentage of the industry’s activity within La Rioja.

From an employment perspective, the companies that make up the Cluster provide jobs for more than 2,600 people, which accounts for over 70% of total employment in the industry. We at the Cluster work hard to foster communication and collaboration, which makes companies more competitive by enabling them to transform their activities and relationships, forge closer relationships with suppliers, accelerate the innovation process, make a positive impact on strategic aims, and achieve digital transformation in order to become better businesses.

Our vision is to lead and represent the automotive industry in La Rioja and become a benchmark for Connected Industry 4.0. We will achieve this through cooperation and by promoting strategies for innovation, knowledge transfer, excellence in work practices, processes that add value, and business development.
